Thrifting Thursday 101
2013 needed a new resolution. Of course one needs several resolutions to help them grow, strive for something and be accountable. In addition to the usual drop a few pounds resolution I added kind of a 'fun' one. I love to shop-love being a complete understatement. I also love fantastic finds (you know getting something worthy for next to nothing). I've been 'into' thrift stores since 2005 or so. I also love a challenge. So I thought I would challenge myself-it is my goal resolution to only clothe my two children (ages 6 and 3) with fantastic finds! I plan to withdraw from retail shopping for their clothes; I will only buy from thrift stores and on occasion Ebay.
It is a real rush for me to purchase adorable outfits for my children, but I only purchase items on sale and more often than not I use a coupon to get an additional discount. I try to resell my kids' clothes on Ebay as well. I've been supplementing their wardrobe with thrift store finds for years but this is a whole new ball game.
I titled the blog 'Thrift Store Thursdays' because Thursday is a day my 6 year old does not have therapy and our respite girl is usually available during the day. Of course I will be thrifting on other days, but the blog doesn't need to know that ;)
Most of my kids' clothes come from Gymboree, Janie and Jack, Mini Boden, Gap, and some Matilda Jane. I like these brands because they have adorable clothes, they are durable and they also have an awesome resell rate on Ebay. I still plan to continue to purchase these brands at the thrift store. I also plan to add Oilily, Lands End and Crew Cuts (brands that I've NEVER purchased retail). I will buy items from other brands if it is super cute, feels nice and is priced right. I want to stick with brands that I know I can resell on Ebay for much more than I am paying at the thrift store.
I will say that I have a tendency to buy items ahead of time so for 2013 some articles of clothing will be from retail locations, but purchased in 2012.
